BEIRUT, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's Defense Minister Michel Menassa on Wednesday signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to assist the Lebanese Mine Action Center from 2026 to 2030, Lebanon's National News Agency (NAA) reported.
The agreement aims to enhance the institutional capacity of the mine action center and expand humanitarian demining and clearance of unexploded ordnance, NAA reported.
UNDP Resident Representative in Lebanon Blerta Aliko said Lebanon faces growing humanitarian and development challenges due to unexploded ordnance contamination, calling the program a long-term investment in the country's demining efforts.
For his part, Menassa said the project represents a key step in strengthening cooperation with UNDP and donor countries and in implementing Lebanon's national mine action strategy. ■
