KABUL, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Two children were killed and two others injured following a landmine explosion in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province, local media outlet Tolo news reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Khogyani district, where the children were struck by an explosive device, the report said. The injured were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a serious threat to civilians across Afghanistan despite ongoing clearance efforts.
According to the United Nations, more than 1,000 square kilometers of land in Afghanistan remain contaminated with explosive remnants of war, with millions of people still living in areas affected by such hazards. ■
