ALGIERS, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Algeria's parliament on Wednesday evening unanimously approved a set of technical amendments to the 2020 Constitution during a plenary session held in its capital Algiers.
The session was convened by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and brought together members of both the upper and lower houses of parliament.
The amendments aim to improve institutional functioning and address legal gaps without affecting fundamental rights, according to lawmakers.
Key changes include introducing an educational requirement for presidential candidates, allowing early local elections, revising the composition of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, extending the term of the head of the Council of the Nation to six years and expanding the powers of the election authority.
The amended text is expected to be published in the official Gazette to take effect. ■
