KABUL, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Two travelers lost their lives and three others were injured as a car plunged into a river in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on Tuesday evening, said a statement of the provincial directorate for information and culture on Wednesday.
Blaming reckless driving for the accident, the statement noted that the mishap took place in Gereshk district. Police personnel reached the site and, after rescuing the injured commuters, took them to the nearby hospital.
At least two dozen individuals had been killed and over 500 others sustained injuries due to road accidents across Afghanistan during the three-day Eid al-Fitr holidays, which ended on Saturday night. ■
