HANOI, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has set a target of establishing two renewable energy industry and service hubs by 2030 under the amended plan for implementing the international agreement Just Energy Transition Partnership, local media outlet VnEconomy reported Tuesday.
Renewable energy is expected to account for about 47 percent of the Southeast Asian country's total installed power capacity by 2030, while emissions from the power sector are projected not to exceed 170 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, the report said.
By 2030, Vietnam also aims to finalize a policy and regulatory framework to attract investment in offshore wind, solar power and energy storage, while engaging with international partners to upgrade transmission infrastructure and build a smart grid capable of integrating large-scale renewable energy.
Beyond 2030, Vietnam will continue policy reforms to support clean energy development to make renewable energy account for up to 85 percent of total primary energy by 2050, phasing out aging coal-fired power plants and further reducing emissions. ■
