ASTANA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Horse meat consumption in Kazakhstan reached a record high in 2025, Kazinform reported Saturday, citing data from the Datahub Telegram channel based on official statistics.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, horse meat consumption per capita stood at 2.35 kg, the highest level for any quarter in at least 15 years, up 10.7 percent year-on-year.
For the whole year, average consumption reached 7.63 kg per person, also a record, while total meat consumption hit 84.4 kg per capita.
The share of horse meat in the overall meat diet rose to a record 9 percent in 2025, as consumption of beef, lamb and pork declined, the report said.
The shift in consumption structure was partly attributed to faster price increases for beef and lamb compared with horse meat and poultry. ■
