OSLO, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The Norwegian government on Friday launched a new strategy for cooperation with the World Bank for the 2026-2030 period, aiming to strengthen multilateral cooperation and channel more support to the world's poorest countries amid rising development needs and a more fragmented global aid landscape.

Minister of International Development Asmund Aukrust said the strategy is designed to reinforce the World Bank's role as a key global actor in development and climate efforts, while advancing Norway's priorities within the institution.

According to the government, the strategy centers on three main priorities: strengthening multilateral cooperation at a time of increasing global fragmentation; supporting the World Bank's work on issues such as gender equality, climate and nature, renewable energy, food security and job creation; and channeling assistance to regions with the greatest needs, particularly vulnerable and conflict-affected countries.

The strategy identifies the World Bank as Norway's largest channel for poverty reduction, adding that Oslo will continue to support its operations in areas including Ukraine and Palestine.
