PHNOM PENH, March 19 (Xinhua) -- One Cambodian villager was killed and another was seriously injured on Thursday in a cluster bomb explosion in northwest Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province, said a mine clearance chief.
Heng Ratana, director general of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, said the blast occurred in Boeung Snor village of Svay Chek district when one of the victims accidentally touched the bomb.
"This accident resulted in the death of a 42-year-old man and caused a serious injury to a 47-year-old man," he said in a post on social media.
Based on shrapnel evidence found at the scene, the cluster munitions that exploded were an M46 submunition from an NR269 155-mm artillery projectile, he added.
These remnants of war continue to threaten peace, physical and mental safety, and social and economic development of Cambodia, Ratana said. ■
