RIO DE JANEIRO, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil national team manager Tite was sacked by Cruzeiro on Sunday after the club's poor start to the Brazilian Serie A season.
The announcement followed a 3-3 home draw against Vasco da Gama, a result that left Cruzeiro 19th in the 20-team standings without a win in six games.
"We thank Tite and all his staff for the service they provided to Cruzeiro, which was marked by commitment and dedication, but our results and performances have led us to make this decision to change," CEO Pedro Junio told reporters.
He added that assistant coach Wesley Carvalho would assume the position on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named.
Tite, who was Brazil's manager from 2016 to 2022, guided Cruzeiro to eight wins, three draws and six losses after his appointment in December. ■
