ISLAMABAD, March 15 (Xinhua) -- A person was killed and more than a dozen were injured when a passenger train collided with a stationary goods train in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, police officials said on Sunday.
The incident happened in Sindh's Naushahro Feroze district after the passenger train veered toward a loop line due to some glitch in the interlocking system, colliding with the parked freight, local police officials told Xinhua.
The passenger train's locomotive and several coaches were derailed and damaged in the mishap, said the police, adding law enforcers and rescue teams immediately rushed to the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.
Police said that the passenger train was on its way to the eastern Lahore city from the country's southern port city of Karachi when the accident occurred.
An investigation is underway to determine if the incident resulted from negligence or a failure to follow established safety procedures. ■
