RIYADH, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said on Saturday the bloc fully supports political and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, Saudi state-linked Al Arabiya News reported.
Albudaiwi told Saudi media the region's future lies in dialogue and a political track, adding that GCC member states are working with the international community to contain the situation.
He said diplomacy remains the best way to address current tensions and that protecting maritime routes is a shared international responsibility.
While describing Iran's strikes on GCC states as unacceptable, Albudaiwi welcomed the UN Security Council's condemnation of the attacks as reflecting a broad international consensus.
He also said GCC states have repeatedly assured Tehran they would not allow their territories to be used as a launchpad for hostile actions against Iran. ■
