MOSCOW, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The Global Governance Initiative (GGI) is very important for building a more just multipolar world order, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova at a regular press conference on Thursday.
In response to a question from Xinhua, Zakharova said that during the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus" Meeting in Tianjin in September 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a positive assessment of the China-proposed GGI and expressed clear support for it.
She noted that in accordance with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, the two countries, as independent forces in the formation of a multipolar world order, intend to fully tap the potential of bilateral relations, to safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
They also aim to promote the establishment of an equitable and orderly multipolar world and the democratization of international relations, and pool efforts to build a more just and multipolar world, she said.
The alignment of principles and positions between the two sides will help strengthen their practical coordination on various international platforms, including the SCO and BRICS, she added. ■
