BERLIN, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Dortmund has secured the long-term future of midfielder Felix Nmecha after the Germany international signed a new contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until June 2030, the club announced on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old joined Dortmund from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has since developed into a key figure in midfield. Across all competitions, he has made 108 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists while establishing himself as an increasingly influential presence in the center of the pitch.
Nmecha, who spent two seasons at Wolfsburg after beginning his professional career with Manchester City in 2019, has also featured regularly for Dortmund this season. He appeared in each of the team's first 25 matches of the 2025-26 campaign and has scored five goals in all competitions.
"I have had many great experiences with this club and its supporters over the past few years and am very grateful for the club's trust," Nmecha said. "I want to repay that trust by giving my best for Borussia Dortmund."
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl praised the midfielder's development, saying he had become an essential part of the team despite early injury setbacks. "Felix has become a very important part of our team. He always finds creative solutions, even when under pressure. He brings incredible quality to the pitch, both for us and for the German national team. We are convinced that his development curve will continue to rise in the future," Kehl said.
Managing director Lars Ricken said the extension reflected the club's long-term planning and belief in the midfielder. "We are delighted to continue our journey together with Felix. He identifies completely with Borussia Dortmund and is a key component of our strategic planning for the squad. His contract extension signals continuity and underlines our conviction that we will be successful together in the coming years," Ricken said.
Dortmund is second in the Bundesliga with 55 points from 25 matches, 11 behind leader Bayern Munich, while Hoffenheim is third with 49. Niko Kovac's side will aim to strengthen its hold on a Champions League place when it hosts ninth-placed Augsburg on Saturday. ■
