JERUSALEM, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Israel renewed its warning on Tuesday for residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate areas south of the Litani River ahead of "forceful" airstrikes in the region.

"Airstrikes are continuing as the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) is operating with great force in the region," Avichay Adraee, an IDF spokesman, wrote in a post on social media platform X.

He urged residents to evacuate their homes "immediately" and move north of the river, saying "remaining south of the Litani River may endanger your life and the lives of your family members."

Adraee said the airstrikes were in response to Hezbollah activities in the area.

Israel issued a similar call last week, in addition to evacuation warnings to residents of Beirut's southern suburbs, home to hundreds of thousands of people.

Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed at least 486 people since the beginning of the current conflict, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

In Lebanon alone, nearly 700,000 people, including about 200,000 children, have been displaced from their homes, according to the United Nations Children's Fund.
