JAKARTA, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will need around 200 new nuclear researchers to support the development of nuclear energy, including the planned operation of its first nuclear power plant in 2032, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) said on Tuesday.
BRIN deputy for science and technology human resources Edy Giri Rachman Putra said the demand reflected the growing need for research and technology talent to strengthen the country's nuclear ecosystem.
"We project the need for some 200 new researchers in the nuclear field to support future research and technology development," Edy said, adding that human resource development would be crucial as Indonesia moves from research into the future operation of nuclear power plants.
He acknowledged that meeting the demand would be challenging, given the limited interest among young people in nuclear research.
To address the gap, BRIN is pushing for national job competency standards and capacity-building programs, including the Nuclear Energy Management School training center and scholarship schemes in cooperation with the Finance Ministry's Education Fund Management Agency. ■
