BAGHDAD, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella body for Iraq's pro-Iranian militias, announced on Sunday morning that its fighters had carried out 24 military operations against "enemy bases" in Iraq and the region over the past 24 hours.
It said in a statement that the operations involved "dozens of missiles and drones," without providing further details regarding specific targets or casualties.
The group has claimed hundreds of such attacks over the past few days.
The attacks came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and U.S. assets across the Middle East. ■
