VIENTIANE, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government, in collaboration with development partners, launched the national action plan on transition toward sustainable food systems transformation (2025-2030) to boost farmers' incomes, nutrition, climate resilience, and sustainable environments for future generations.
The plan, unveiled in the Lao capital Vientiane on Monday, outlines 20 strategic action areas and 62 priority milestones to build inclusive, resilient and nature-positive food systems. The initiative supports Laos' progress toward graduation from least developed country status, Lao News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The action plan marks a paradigm shift, from viewing food and agriculture as a single sector to understanding food and agriculture as the backbone of national development, connecting production, nutrition, health, environmental protection, climate resilience and inclusive growth.
The initiative also aims to promote green agricultural innovation, improve nutrition for women and youth, and strengthen the regional competitiveness of high-quality Lao products. ■
