AMMAN, March 2 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday received a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump, during which they discussed the latest regional escalations and their implications for regional and global security and stability.
During the call, the king affirmed Jordan's absolute rejection of Iran's attacks on its territory and on a number of countries in the region, according to a Royal Court statement.
The king underscored the need to intensify efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable calm, noting that de-escalation is essential to restoring stability and advancing prospects for peace in the region.
On Saturday morning, joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with some of the leader's family members, senior military commanders and civilians. Iran responded through several waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases across the Middle East. ■
