KIEV, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russia carried out overnight strikes on energy and gas infrastructure in multiple regions of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday.
Zelensky said in a Telegram post that the Russian strikes involved 420 drones and 39 missiles, including 11 ballistic missiles, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency. He said damage was reported in eight regions, with residential buildings hit and dozens of people injured.
The Ukrainian Air Force said 406 out of 459 aerial targets were intercepted or suppressed overnight, but five ballistic missiles and 46 drones struck 32 locations. Gas facilities in the Poltava region and power substations in the Kyiv and Dnipro regions were among the targets.
Zelensky said additional air defense missiles supplied by partners had helped intercept many of the incoming weapons. He stressed that further support was needed as attacks on Ukraine's energy system would continue. ■
