PARIS, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Deputies from France's far-right National Rally (RN) filed a no-confidence motion against the French government on Monday, protesting the publication of an energy plan.
According to a statement, the RN group is challenging the procedure that the government used to adopt the third Multiannual Energy Program (PPE3) on Feb. 13. It argued that, under France's Energy Code, no decree establishing a multiannual energy program can be adopted.
The RN group also warned that the PPE3 could cost at least 300 billion euros (353.31 billion U.S. dollars) and pose a major risk to public finances.
The motion of no confidence is expected to be examined no earlier than Wednesday, due to the mandatory 48-hour delay between its submission and parliamentary debate.
France's PPE3 covering the 2026-2035 period, prioritizes the development of nuclear power, solar, and offshore wind by 2035. It defines France's energy strategy and charts a pathway toward carbon neutrality by 2050. ■
