SYDNEY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A man has died and six other people have been hospitalized, including four with life-threatening injuries, following separate collisions near Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland on Tuesday night.
Emergency services were deployed after a truck traveling on the wrong side of a highway collided head-on with a sedan near the town of Burpengary, 35 km north of central Brisbane, at around 10:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
The driver of the sedan, a 26-year-old man, was killed after the collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
The 46-year-old male driver of the truck sustained head, neck and pelvic injuries and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Local media reported that the truck was one of several vehicles seen traveling at high speed on the wrong side of the highway prior to the crash.
Earlier on Tuesday night, five males were hospitalized following a single vehicle crash at Logan Village, 35 km south of Brisbane.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 8 p.m. and found that some of the five occupants had become trapped in the vehicle.
Three occupants were taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and the other two were hospitalized in stable conditions.
Police have commenced investigations into the cause of both incidents. ■
