ATHENS, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainfall and strong winds struck multiple parts of Greece in recent days, triggering landslides, flooding and extensive damage to infrastructure, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported on Sunday.

Western and central Greece have experienced persistent heavy rain, while strong winds struck coastal areas along the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea, and the western coastal region of Preveza was among the hardest hit.

In the coastal town of Mytikas, floodwaters damaged agricultural and livestock facilities, and several major transport routes were blocked by landslides.

According to the report, on the northwestern Ionian island of Corfu, a coastal road was destroyed, and a bridge was swept away by floodwaters. In the eastern Aegean island of Chios, strong winds and high waves inundated coastal roads and caused partial collapses near the port. In addition, in western Peloponnese, flooding inundated farmland and caused significant crop losses.

Authorities have warned that as severe weather continues, further damage and traffic disruptions are likely.
