BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Environment, Park and Recreation Department has taken the initiative to promote a more efficient house-to-house waste collection system through a briefing session with residents of the national housing scheme area in Rimba, near the capital.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the department said the engagement aimed to enhance public awareness and encourage community participation in improving waste management practices.
The department is introducing a comprehensive subscription-based waste collection package designed to streamline services and promote recycling practices among residents. Under the program, waste collection services will be provided by licensed waste collection companies selected and registered under the department.
The initiative seeks to ensure a more systematic and reliable service, while encouraging households to adopt environmentally responsible habits. It emphasized that cooperation and sustained community support are essential to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the initiative and in strengthening shared responsibility toward maintaining environmental cleanliness across the country. ■
