ACCRA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) issued a new report on Tuesday, indicating a drop in the number of food-insecure individuals in the country to 38.1 percent in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025 from 41.1 percent in Q2 of the same year.
The report also showed that severe food insecurity declined slightly nationwide from 5.1 percent in Q2 to 4.6 percent in Q3 2025.
Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu said during a quarterly press briefing that the numbers show progress but with vulnerabilities, as moderate food insecurity was higher in female-headed households.
"Despite the decline in the number of food-insecure people, risks remain high in specific regions, among female-headed households, and in families with children," Iddrisu said, highlighting the strong links between food insecurity, child nutrition, poverty, and employment.
He said the data provided should serve as a guide for policymakers, businesses, civil society, development partners, researchers, and communities to target interventions where necessary to help Ghana achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2, which aims for zero hunger by 2030. ■
