SOFIA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova has appointed Andrey Gurov as caretaker prime minister-designate, Iotova's press office said in a statement on Wednesday.
Iotova will task Gurov with proposing a caretaker government at a special ceremony on Thursday, according to the statement.
The country's constitution does not specify a deadline for the caretaker prime minister-designate to present the cabinet lineup, but the usual time frame is about one week.
If Iotova approves the proposal, the caretaker government will replace the coalition government led by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, which resigned in December.
Meanwhile, under the constitution, the president is required to schedule early parliamentary elections, which must be held within two months.
Gurov is currently a deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB). ■
