BANGKOK, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Thai police confirmed on Wednesday that a gunman has been taken into custody following a school shooting earlier Wednesday in the southern province of Songkhla.
The Royal Thai Police announced on social media that the situation is now under control and all hostages previously held by the suspect have been safely rescued.
According to local media reports, the incident left at least two people injured, including the school's principal.
Earlier statements from the Songkhla provincial public relations office indicated that an armed assailant forced his way into the school premises and opened fire. The attacker reportedly held several teachers and students hostage before police intervened. ■
