KABUL, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has supported 47 health centers operated by the Afghan Red Crescent Society across Afghanistan, delivering primary healthcare services to more than 1.2 million patients over the past year, local media outlet Tolo news reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, women and girls made up 64 percent of the total number of patients who received medical treatment at the supported facilities. During the reporting period, over 337,000 doses of vaccines were administered, helping curb the spread of communicable diseases in vulnerable communities.

In addition to medical services, the ICRC also provided professional and technical training to hundreds of healthcare workers to enhance the capacity and quality of local health services, the report said.

Afghanistan's health sector has encountered serious challenges in recent years amid economic constraints and a decline in international funding, increasing the need for sustained humanitarian assistance.
