QUITO, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Paraguay international forward Carlos Gonzalez has joined Independiente del Valle on a free transfer, the Ecuadorian club said on Monday.
The 33-year-old agreed to a deal that runs until December 2027 after Argentina's Newell's Old Boys opted not to exercise an option to extend his contract last December.
"I arrive with the maturity and experience I've gained over my career," he told reporters. "I'm here to help the team and give everything I have. I've done things well throughout my career and I'm sure there will be no exception here."
Gonzalez made 30 first-team appearances for Newell's and scored six goals following his February 2025 move from Mexican side Tijuana.
Independiente will begin its 2026 league campaign with a home clash against Guayaquil City on February 22. The club will also play in the Copa Libertadores group stage, which begins on April 7. ■
