Pakistan's workers' remittances rise over 15 pct in January

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan received 3.5 billion U.S. dollars in workers' remittances in January 2026, up 15.4 percent compared with 3.0 billion dollars in the same month last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data showed on Tuesday.

Remittances in January were slightly lower than 3.6 billion dollars recorded in December 2025. During the first seven months of the current fiscal year (July 2025-January 2026), remittance inflows totaled 23.2 billion dollars, rising from 20.9 billion dollars in the same period of last year.

Saudi Arabia was the largest source, with Pakistani workers sending nearly 740 million dollars in January. The United Arab Emirates contributed 694 million dollars, while Britain accounted for 572 million dollars.

Remittances from the United States stood at 295 million dollars. Inflows from European Union countries increased to 480 million dollars, marking a 36 percent year-on-year rise. Other notable sources included Qatar at 103 million dollars, Oman at 106 million dollars, and Bahrain at 47 million dollars.
