ISLAMABAD, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed on Friday after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, officials said.
The attack occurred in Chaman district while a routine polio vaccination campaign was underway, a police official told Xinhua.
The attackers, riding a motorcycle, targeted police assigned to protect the team, killing a police constable on the spot before fleeing, a police official said.
The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the suspects. An investigation is underway, and additional security has been deployed in the area. ■
