BEIRUT, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Saturday the launch of government-led reconstruction projects in two southern villages, Yarine and Tayr Harfa, following destruction from Israeli attacks.
During a visit to the south, Salam said the government has started implementing reconstruction as a foundation for recovery, according to the official National News Agency.
Describing southern Lebanon as a "national cause," Salam said that rebuilding infrastructure and restoring basic services are essential for stability and for enabling residents to remain in their communities.
He outlined a recovery framework that includes cash assistance, free healthcare services and guarantees for continued education for displaced students. The government will also focus on rebuilding public infrastructure and state-owned property for better conditions in the villages.
Salam also paid tribute to the Lebanese army for its role in maintaining stability.
The Israeli army has carried out frequent strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at removing Hezbollah "threats," despite a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel that has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. ■
