NEW DELHI, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen Friday shot dead Lucky Oberoi, a local leader belonging to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the northern Indian state of Punjab, police said.
Oberoi was fired upon from a point-blank range outside a Sikh temple in Jalandhar Model Town area in Punjab.
While seated inside his vehicle, he was struck by gunshots and was quickly rushed to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds, a police official said.
Reports said the window panes of Oberoi's vehicle were shattered in the firing.
Soon after the incident, police teams reached the spot and secured the area for forensic experts to collect samples for investigation. Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the killing. ■
