MINSK, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' gold and foreign exchange reserves stood at 15.7 billion U.S. dollars as of Feb. 1, setting a new historic high, the country's central bank said Wednesday.

In January alone, the reserves increased by 1.3 billion dollars, an 8.9 percent growth.

The largest shares of Belarus' reserve assets are held in foreign currency and monetary gold.

As of Feb. 1, foreign currency reserves amounted to 5.64 billion dollars, rising by 100.6 million dollars from January, while monetary gold reserves reached 8.6 billion dollars, surging by 1.16 billion dollars.

Under the monetary policy targets, Belarus aims to maintain its international reserves at no less than 9.2 billion dollars by the end of 2026.
