Up to 60 percent of respondents described the United States as an adversary, while only 17 percent considered it still an ally.

OSLO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A majority of Danes now regard the U.S. as an adversary rather than an ally, according to a poll released by Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) on Tuesday.

The survey showed that 60 percent of respondents described the United States as an adversary, while only 17 percent considered it still an ally.

The poll was conducted from Jan. 21 to 28, following U.S. President Donald Trump's statement on Jan. 21 in Davos, Switzerland, that he would not use military force to take over Greenland.

Results indicated that this negative perception of the United States was broadly shared across different segments of Danish society, regardless of region, gender, age or political affiliation.

Since returning to office in 2025, Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to "obtain" Greenland, a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, sparking strong opposition across Europe.

In January, large-scale protests against the U.S. pressure on Greenland took place across Denmark and Greenland.
