VIENTIANE, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A specialized training workshop for female candidates was held from Monday to Tuesday to prepare participants for the upcoming elections of members of the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature and the fifth Provincial People's Councils.
The meeting, held in Vientiane province, was presided over by Thoummaly Vongphachanh, a member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, Lao News Agency reported on Tuesday.
Speaking during the meeting, Thoummaly highlighted the workshop as a significant milestone in the political development of female leaders. The training focuses on enhancing participants' understanding of the roles, rights, and responsibilities of the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils. Candidates are also briefed on official regulations issued by the National Election Committee regarding campaigning and engagement with voters.
This initiative aims to ensure that female representation in the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils reaches at least 30 percent. ■
