BERLIN, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Serhou Guirassy struck twice to steer Borussia Dortmund past bottom club FC Heidenheim in a 3-2 Bundesliga win that swung late after a turbulent contest at the Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.
Dortmund entered the match riding a long unbeaten domestic run and with an imposing home record, while Heidenheim arrived rooted at the foot of the table and searching for relief after a prolonged drought.
The host controlled possession early and pressed high, Heidenheim stayed compact and threatened on the break, before a corner finally broke the deadlock when Dortmund's Waldemar Anton pounced from close range in the 44th minute.
The lead barely survived until the interval as Julian Niehues struck in stoppage time, then stunned the home crowd moments after the restart with a long-range effort to turn the game.
Niko Kovac responded with attacking changes and Dortmund found a lifeline when a handball by Niklas Dorsch led to a penalty, calmly converted by Guirassy in the 68th minute.
The striker completed the turnaround two minutes later, finishing after a pass from Maximilian Beier, though he squandered a chance for a hat-trick by sending another spot-kick over late on.
Heidenheim pushed to the end and created late openings, but Dortmund held on to preserve their home run as tension rippled through the closing stages.
The result keeps second placed Dortmund firmly in the chase near the top, moving to 45 points and closing to within six of leaders Bayern Munich, while Heidenheim remains bottom with 13 points after seven matches without a win.
"We controlled the first half, but then conceded the equalizer. After the break it became end to end, at times quite open from both sides. We gave away too much, but fortunately today we came out on top," said Dortmund captain Nico Schlotterbeck.
Elsewhere, Stuttgart climbed to fourth after edging resilient Freiburg with a 90th-minute goal from Ermedin Demirovic. ■
