HANOI, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered relevant authorities to ensure a sufficient supply of essential goods to meet public demand for the Lunar New Year holiday, which runs from Feb. 14 to 22, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.
Under an official dispatch signed on Feb. 1, Chinh urged the Ministry of Industry and Trade to keep close tabs on market developments and prevent supply disruptions that may cause unreasonable price hikes, said the report.
Chinh stressed the need to launch intensive campaigns to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods while tightening market inspections on the origin and quality of commodities.
He also called for ensuring adequate supplies of petrol and electricity to support production, business activities and daily life throughout the holiday. ■
