COLOMBO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka recorded a provisional current account surplus of 1.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, supported by consistent monthly surpluses and record workers' remittances exceeding 8 billion dollars, the latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) showed.
Earnings from tourism and remittances reached 3.2 billion and 8.1 billion dollars, respectively, the CBSL said.
Total exports for 2025 were 20.6 billion dollars, of which 13.6 billion dollars came from goods exports. Gross official reserves stood at 6.8 billion dollars at the end of 2025, CBSL data shows.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan rupee appreciated by 0.2 percent against the U.S. dollar in January 2026, the CBSL said. ■
