TOKYO, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Some train services in the Tokyo area were temporarily disrupted Friday due to a power outage, the second such incident this month, affecting around 230,000 people, the operator JR East said.

It said the outage occurred at around 6:55 a.m. local time at JR Ueno Station, halting 81 trains, including those on the Joban Line between Ueno and Tsuchiura stations as well as parts of the Takasaki Line and the Tohoku Line, for up to seven hours.

The power outage left some passengers on trains stranded between stations. They were later asked to be unloaded onto railway tracks and move to the nearest stations on foot.

The company said it is investigating the exact cause of the incident, noting that officials discovered that an overhead wire on a Joban Line platform at Ueno Station was severed.

The incident came just two weeks after a similar power outage on Jan. 16 halted services on Tokyo's Yamanote loop line, also operated by JR East, affecting some 673,000 passengers.
