KATHMANDU, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- As many as 238 people, including 15 children, lost their lives in traffic accidents in a month across Nepal, according to a Nepal police report released Thursday.

A total of 4,016 people sustained injuries, among whom 663 were injured critically, in 2,756 accidents involving 4,549 vehicles between mid-December and mid-January. "Over speeding is the major reason for the accidents," said the report.

Motorcycles were involved in the highest numbers of accidents accounting for 56.50 percent followed by cars with 19.46 percent, and trucks and tippers with 6.83 percent. The police took action against 88,969 drivers and riders for traffic rules violations and collected 80.41 million Nepali rupees (about 546,876 U.S. dollars) in fines.
