ULAN BATOR, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The total population of Mongolian Saiga antelopes, a critically endangered species, reached 28,857 last October, up 24 percent year-on-year, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Mongolia on Wednesday, citing an annual survey.
"Recent conservation efforts to mitigate impacts of environmental and human influences, such as improving water accessibility, law enforcement, disease prevention, and community engagement, have contributed to the recovery of the saiga population in Mongolia," the organization said in a statement. ■
