LONDON, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Action-thriller "One Battle After Another" led the shortlist Tuesday of films competing at the British Academy Film Awards, or BAFTAs, which will be handed out next month as the awards season builds toward the Oscars in March.
The film, in which Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio plays a washed-up revolutionary, led the nominations with 14 nods. These included best film, the best director and acting mentions for DiCaprio and other actors.
"Sinners," set in the segregated U.S. South and rooted in blues culture, followed close behind with 13 nominations, including a best film slot.
Other titles in contention for the best film prize are "Hamnet," "Marty Supreme," and "Sentimental Value," setting up a competitive field alongside the leading nominee.
British comedy "I Swear," which follows a man living with Tourette syndrome, emerged as an unexpected awards-season player, picking up five BAFTA nominations. The haul included a best actor nomination for Robert Aramayo, along with several mentions in craft categories, giving the low-key release a standout showing in this year's field.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at London's Royal Festival Hall on February 22. ■
