SYDNEY, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- A 12-year-old boy who sustained critical injuries in a shark attack at a beach in Sydney Harbor has died in hospital, his family said in a statement on Saturday.
Nico Antic was attacked by a suspected bull shark after jumping off a rock into the water at a beach on the southern shore of Sydney Harbor on Sunday afternoon.
He was pulled from the water by friends and rushed to the Sydney Children's Hospital with critical injuries to both legs.
The incident on Sunday afternoon was the first of four shark attacks that occurred at beaches in the state of New South Wales (NSW) in a 48 hour span.
A 27-year-old man was hospitalized with severe leg injuries after the third attack, which occurred in northern Sydney on Monday.
His family said on Wednesday that he was in a stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery. ■
