MOSCOW, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Russian citizen has been arrested by the Federal Security Service (FSB) for acting as an agent for Moldova's intelligence services, the TASS news agency reported Thursday.
According to the FSB, the suspect arrived in Moscow in December 2025 and was detained when preparing to carry out an assignment from Moldova's intelligence services that aimed to harm Russia's national security.
Investigators found correspondence on the suspect's seized communication devices with an officer of the Moldovan intelligence service, confirming his links to a foreign security agency, said the FSB.
A criminal case has been opened, and the detainee has been placed in pre-trial detention, with a charge that carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison.
The FSB said the suspect has confessed, while a further investigation is going on. ■
