JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Eleven children were killed and five others critically injured after a school vehicle collided with a truck on Monday morning in Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg, South Africa, local media reported.
Preliminary reports indicate that 11 learners were declared dead at the scene, and the five critical injured are being treated in hospital, Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial department of education, said in a statement.
"Further verified details will be shared in due course as information becomes available," the statement added.
The private school vehicle reportedly veered off the road after colliding with the truck. ■
