JERUSALEM, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on Sunday announced a pilot program that will allow electric vehicles (EVs) to be charged using power from existing streetlights.
The ministry said the project aims to expand urban charging access by using current streetlight infrastructure, reducing the need for new construction, speeding up installation, and minimizing public disruption. It is primarily targeted at EV owners who cannot install private charging stations at home.
The initiative is one of 18 energy projects supported with 13.4 million shekels (4.22 million U.S. dollars) in government funding, focusing on renewable energy, storage, efficiency, and clean transportation. ■
