LONDON, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United confirmed on Wednesday that Michael Carrick has been appointed head coach until the end of the 2025/26 season.
A former United midfielder, Carrick returns to the club with a coaching team comprising former England assistant Steve Holland, while Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion will also be part of his backroom staff.
Carrick, 44, previously took temporary charge of the club for three matches following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021. He is set to be back in the Old Trafford dugout on Saturday for the Premier League derby against Manchester City.
United sacked Ruben Amorim on January 5 after 14 months at the helm, with Darren Fletcher stepping in as caretaker manager for two games before Carrick's appointment.
"It's an unbelievable feeling to come back through the doors and be part of the club again," Carrick said on the club's Inside Carrington podcast.
"It's a big responsibility, a massive pleasure and a privilege to be here, but we want to do a good job - this place deserves that," he added. ■
