BANGKOK, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Air pollution in Thailand's capital Bangkok remained at unsafe levels on Wednesday, with ultrafine dust detected in several areas reaching very unhealthy ratings, official data showed.
According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, PM2.5 levels in four inner-city districts hovered around 80 mg per cubic meter within the "Red" zone, while the rest were at unhealthy levels, exceeding the national safe limit of 37.5.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt attributed the spike primarily to critically low ventilation over the past four days, along with vehicle emissions and traffic congestion worsened by ongoing downtown construction.
Air ventilation is forecast to improve starting Thursday, according to Chadchart. ■
