JERUSALEM, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Israel has adjusted its air defense deployment and raised its alert level as it steps up preparations for a possible escalation with Iran, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the political-security cabinet convened for a previously scheduled meeting to discuss developments related to Iran.
Israel's Army Radio reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had increased readiness for a range of potential escalation scenarios involving Iran and placed several military formations on heightened alert.
Public broadcaster Kan said changes had been made to Israel's air defense systems over the past 24 hours, including the deployment of the Iron Dome interceptor system. Citing officials, broadcasters said Israel assesses that Iran is unlikely to attack Israel unless the United States carries out a large-scale strike on Iranian territory.
There was no immediate call-up of reservists and no official comment from the IDF.
The moves followed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who urged Iranians to continue protesting and said "help is on its way," without providing further details.
Last June, Israel launched a 12-day war against Iran, during which Israeli warplanes carried out strikes on Iranian military targets. ■
