BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to pay an official visit to China from Wednesday to Saturday.
Born in 1965 in Fort Smith, Canada, Carney holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Harvard University, as well as a Master's and a Doctoral degree in Economics from the University of Oxford.
His previous leadership roles include governor of the Bank of Canada, chair of the Financial Stability Board, governor of the Bank of England, vice chairman of Brookfield Asset Management and chair of Bloomberg L.P. He has also acted as the UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance.
In March 2025, he was elected as the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and assumed the country's premiership. Following the general election in April last year, he reassumed office as Canada's prime minister. ■
